Top — a normal sight of the kingfisher. Below — a barbet. Jacob spotted this bird outside in the guava tree but we didn’t manage to get a picture. Then a few days later, he was across the pond and he stayed still enough for this shot. Just yesterday I was sitting on a mat under a starfruit tree, and some bird above was throwing down bits of half-eaten starfruit right on my lap. I looked up expecting to see a myna, and I saw a barbet instead. It’s funny, with birds, once you identify a new bird, you see it everywhere.
