April 14th is New Year’s day for most of Asia. Here in Bangladesh, people get dressed up in red and white clothes, eat hilsa fish and rice that’s been sitting in water all night, and take walks outside. Elias and Jacob took part in a morning parade/procession from the middle of town to the river’s edge. There was a little zoo where Elias got to feed some deer.

Maia and I decided not to go through the hassle of getting all dolled up, and opted for a quiet morning at home instead. Bengali new year marks the beginning of storm season — and last night it did storm and rain a tiny bit. We had a few hours of relief from the heat, and that was the best part of the holiday!
