This man is selling shutki, which is dried fish. The area of Chittagong is well known for it’s dried fish, so we stopped to buy some shrimp shutki. With a pile of onions, garlic and pepper, it’s a great cheap nutritious food. It’s not the sort of thing to take back to the States though, as it has a very strong odor which attracts bugs. We know someone who tried to take it back to the West, and the customs officer had them open the bag. But when they got a whiff, they quickly said, “Put it back!” So the shutki got through.
