During our photography class we talked about how good photos need black, white, and grays, since the world around us also generally comes in black, white, and grays. You can draw an interesting parallel to the spiritual side of life. Some people perceive the world in harsh blacks and whites only, falling prey to legalism, arrogance, and overconfidence. Others over-react to this and are unable to see anything but grays in life, entirely denying the existence of black and white. This formless gray leaves the big picture of life meaningless and pallid. It’s a good reminder that life consists of blacks, whites and grays. We certainly don’t know everything about reality, but there are certain things we can be sure of which give meaning and form to our lives.
