We cross the Jamuna River every time we go to Dhaka. On the trip back, the train always crosses the huge bridge at sunset. The bridge was a joint effort by several Asian countries. It was designed for cars, and not for trains. Against the instructions of the architects, trains DO run on this bridge. And probably as a result of that, there are growing cracks in the bridge’s structure. The main engineer has been sacked and people are suing. But still the trains go across! So the beautiful scene that we enjoy looking out at is not that peaceful!
