I drove to Buckhannon, West Virginia, to meet up with my sister Dawn. She was driving from Athens, Ohio, and Buckhannon was halfway. I had never driven over the mountains — usually we take the long way around on the highway. So I was utterly surprised at the mountain ranges I had to cross.

The first mountain I crossed was Shenandoah mountain. The second was North Mountain. The valleys in between the mountain ranges were utterly beautiful too. I would have loved to have had the time to enjoy it all fully .. but no, got to drive fast to make it in time for the sister-meeting!

I visited a college friend the other day. She let my kids cut flowers from her garden — aren’t they beautiful? My kids also gathered these tiny sweet persimmons they found in the yard. It was a special time together — there was so much to catch up about.

One of our favorite walks is to go up the EMU hill. We have lots of memories up there! The kids love to play hide and seek around the trees and to roll down the hill.

We were glad to be able to go to HMC’s Summer’s End Festival. We especially enjoyed listening to music by The Fed.

Nony had reading marathons with the kids! They loved that she read for hours to them.

Jacob made Swedish pancakes with blueberries from the cabin. We have to take advantage of the availability of whipping cream while we can!

I have never canned anything. It seems that all my friends and family in the US can, and I have been waiting for my chance! So one Saturday Mom showed me how she does the grapes. First pick, then wash, sort, boil, and can. The best part is drinking the leftover juice.
